4-Session
Counseling Series:
Crossing Cultures While Approaching the Wedding
- Effectively communicate about your
cultural, racial and/or religious differences
- Identify the aspects of your heritage
that are important to you
- Incorporate your traditions and beliefs
into your relationship and your future family
- Deal with your differences directly in
order to create a strong foundation for marriage
Interfaith Couples:
Interfaith couples often experience even more intense emotional
pulls from their families during wedding preparation. Feelings of
loss, especially for parents, are heightened and anxiety around
future family unity looms large. These counseling sessions will
help you to clarify your religious and spiritual values,
communicate more effectively and to steer clear of power struggles
and conflicts with parents and future in-laws.
Intercultural Couples:
Are you from an individualist culture
and your fiance from a collectivist culture? This is likely to
produce dramatically different expectations on the role of the
extended family in the wedding experience. Additionally,
different cultural communication styles, more verbal or more
non-verbal, can be a painful source of misunderstandings around
wedding planning. These counseling sessions will help you to
identify divergent cultural values, to become aware of the impact
they have on the relationship, and to learn how to integrate
differences into your relationship in a healthy way.
